I have to write a science paper on how gravity affects space exploration and I need a long detailed answer. I have the basics, but I need all the details.

gravity affects space exploration by decreasing the chance to move in space. Because there is no gravity on space, it is harder to control your body at the right direction you want to move, which makes you feel the you weight nothing...that is in my opinion, you could put more details if you want=]

Well is drives up costs a lot, escaping our own planets gravity requires large amounts of fuel and every pound of weight you bring onto a ship it raises the costs since you will need more fuel to escape. it can also be helpful for when we send probes, if we send it at the right angle it can orbit that planet once and use the gravity as a slingshot to make it go faster, this happened during the first moon landing.

Don't listen to anyone who says there's no gravity in space.  They have no idea what they're talking about.

As 'Lucas C' said, gravity makes space exploration expensive.  If there were no gravity, you could just throw a satellite into the sky and it would float all the way to its destination (assuming a very accurate throw).  Of course, you'd float off the surface of the Earth, too, and so would the atmosphere, making it rather difficult to breathe.

But since we're stuck with gravity, we must understand how systems of multiple objects interacting via gravity will behave.  I suggest the following articles:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kepler%27s_laws
This is about the basic laws governing a small object orbiting around a much more massive object.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-body_problem
This is about three objects interacting via gravity.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oberth_effect
This is about how clever planning of a spacecraft's trajectory can save lots of fuel.
