1,2,3 -- Patients postop gastrectomy need to consume small frequent meals, be positioned in a semi-recumbent position for 30-60 minutes after eating and can receive anticholinergics and antispasmodics. The diet should consist of increased protein and fats as they take longer to digest in the stomach than carbohydrates. Fluids should be taken between meals because liquids taken with meals hasten the dumping of contents from the stomach.
