Occasionally, errors occur during meiosis that result in an incorrect number of chromosomes in the daughter cells. During which phase(s) of meiosis are these errors likely to occur? Explain. The answer to this question was anaphase 1 and 2, but
wouldn't it be prophase 1 or prophase 2 because if the chromosomes didn't match along their full length during this process, wouldn't there be an error as well? If that makes sense

Prophase do result in defects, such as pieces of the chromosomes breaking off, but the question is asking specifically for what causes incorrect number of chromosomes. That occurs specifically when the spindle fibers pull apart the chromosomes, causing some gametes to have more, and some to have less.
