4 -- The patient who is prescribed elastic graduated compression stockings should be instructed to wear the elastic stockings during the majority of waking hours, and remove them once during the daytime and while sleeping. Skin breakdown is not anticipated with wearing the stockings and would need to be reported to the physician.
