It is very important that you speak with your doctor about discontinuing the use of prozac.  It's a SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor), so it prevents serotonin (a neurotransmitter) from being cleared from the synaptic cleft.  This has a positive effect on mood.  Now, while you are on your drug, your mind will adapt to this in very specific ways.  You might have postsynaptic adaptation where the number of receptors for serotonin is downregulated due to the increase in serotonin.  Or, you might have a decrease in the production of serotonin on the presynaptic side in order to compensate.  Stopping the medication cold turkey, like the other poster said, could cause many undesirable side effects typical of withdrawal of other drugs.   Your best advice, if you truly don't wish to continue taking it, is to make a doctor's appointment and let him or her prescribe a course to gradually taper you off the drug in order to prevent short and long term side effects.  Best of luck!

You'll go through seratonin withdrawl.  Increase depression, dizziness, headaches, visual distrubances, electric shock sensations.  Some are more sensitive than others.  Just taper off for a few weeks and you'll feel better in the long run.
