A line passes through the points (7, -3) and (1, 3):

a) Find the slope of the line.

b)   What is the distance between these points?

c)   What is their midpoint?

d)  Find the standard form of the line ( of the form ax + by = c).

e) Write the linear function defined by f(x) = mx + b that has the line as its graph.

a.         slope is rise over run
               =6/-6 can be seen if you draw a diagram
              =- 1
b. use pythagoras's theorem from same diagram
distance =sqrt(6^2+6^2)
you can evaluate this
c average the x values and the y values
midpoint is(5,0)
do part e first
slope(m) is -1
substitue in agiven  point (x=1 y=3) to find the vale of b
3 = -1.1 +b
3= -1 +b
b =4
 so     y = -1x +4
to do part d rearrange to standard  form
x + y =4
