My textbooks says " the fraction dying between days 124 and 184 is 1.105/0.296 = 0.355, which translates, on the basis of compound `interest` into a daily rate of fraction q124 of 0.007 q."

I`m completely lost here, and don't understand how they get q124 and 0.007 from 0.355. Anyone who could explain me how to do this? I cant find any proper formula for this either.

I have no idea Undecided

To calculate a simple mortality rate, we need to know the number of deaths in a given population during a specified time period, and the size of the population in which the deaths occurred. The basic formula is shown in the attachment.

Mortality rate is typically expressed in units of deaths per 1000 individuals per year; thus, a mortality rate of 9.5 in a population of 100,000 would mean 950 deaths per year in that entire population.

The crude death rate, the total number of deaths per 1000 people.

* Age-specific rates are calculated by dividing the number of cause-specific events occurring in each specified age group by the corresponding population (or sample size) in the same age group. This rate is calculated for each age and sex group to show how a risk factor, occurrence of death or incidence of a disease changes with age and sex.

Example:

Age specific death rate for cause Y in males aged 70-74 years per 100,000 population =
number of deaths from cause Y in males 70-74 years/ total population of males aged 70-74years x 100,000

Sex-specific mortality rate

A sex-specific mortality rate is a mortality rate among either males or females. Both numerator and denominator are limited to the one sex.
