An 85-year-old widower is admitted to a nursing home for increased supervision. The client's son asks about whether his father should be attending activity groups, stating, My father worked hard all his life.

He just needs some rest at this point in his life. Which is the most appropriate nursing response?
  A) That's fine. We'll excuse him from the groups.
  B) The groups provide social interaction, sensory stimulation, and reality orientation that help to keep your father healthier and happier.
  C) The groups are optional. He doesn't have to go if he doesn't want to.
  D) If your father doesn't go to these activity groups, his risk of pneumonia and depression will greatly increase.
