Dear Professor Harrington,
I am writing this e-mail to inform you that due to a family emergency, I will not be able to attend class today. I know that attending class is very important and I will be getting notes from a classmate. I will also complete the activities that were listed on the syllabus. If I have any questions about the content, I'll come to your office hour on Thursday. I've attached my writing assignment that is due today. Thanks in advance for your understanding,
