A norm group must be representative of those who are being tested in order for standardized test scores to be meaningfully interpreted. If the norm group is made up of ten- to twelve-year-olds, and the examinees are nine- and ten-year-olds, any comparison between the examinees and the norm group probably is not appropriate.

Construct validity refers to how accurately a test measures a particular attribute of a person.
