Your sister is worried because her friend, who is Puerto Rican, has an infant son who cries considerably less than her infant. Which advice would be most helpful? (assume for the purposes of this question that you and your sister are not Puerto Rican)

▸ "Infants from different cultural backgrounds sometimes show different crying patterns because of the way parents interact with them, but any two infants from the same or different cultures might act very differently, and that is all right."

▸ "Your infants are from different ethnic backgrounds, so they have large genetic differences. There isn't anything that you can do about the fact that her son cries less."

▸ "Research shows that Puerto Rican infants tend to be more alert and cry less than other infants. You should have your friend teach you how she parents so that you can use that approach with your infant. That should reduce the crying."

▸ "The amount that infants cry isn't related to their wellbeing or cognitive development. What is more important is how well your infants are sleeping."
