When the third group of rats (the delayed-reward group) began to receive a reward at the end of the maze, they learned the maze in just three days, as well as the control rats did after taking two weeks. What did this mean?

▸ The delayed-reward rats must have been more intelligent than the other rats.

▸ The delayed-reward rats must have learned the maze simply by wandering through it even though they had no reward motivation to do so.

▸ The rats could not learn much about the maze without a reward.

▸ Rats only learn if they are reinforced for a behavior.
