It is doubtful that anyone can go through this life without experiencing stress. So if it is assumed that we’ll all experience stress, albeit to different degrees, we also have to deal with the negative effects of stress. Interestingly, research shows that certain factors can help us get through/manage/“bounce back” from the negative effects of stress. These factors help us to exhibit resilience, which seem to protect us from or provide a buffer between us and the negative effects of stress. Studying resilience can teach us how to deal with stress more effectively, can enhance our well-being, and ultimately protect us from illness. Factors promoting resilience are coping, optimism, hardiness, religious, social involvement, social support, and perceived control.
