Firstly,Hydrogenation of Alkane is not possible since it does not have free valency.
These Articles can help:

Hydrogenation of alkyne is possible:

Not hydrogenation, HALOGENation!

In an alkane, the halogen will be selective for the tertiary position.  It's catalyzed by light or heat.  It can also be catalyzed by peroxides (ROOR), which will lead to addition in the anti-mark (primary) position.

In an alkene, the halogen will attack the double bond.  It will break the bond and add anti to either side of it, leading to a vicinal dihalide. CCl4 is a comment solvent.
