At its highest point Vy = 0 and Vx = Ux = U cos(theta) = 40*cos(radians(30)) = 34.64101615 = 34.6 mps.

So V = sqrt(Vx^2 + Vy^2) = Vx = Ux = 34.6 mps.  ANS.

? = 30 Degrees
Vi = 40 m/s
Vix = 34.6 m/s
Viy = 20 m/s

Find:
V@ ?Ymax

Equations:    

?t = (Vf - Vi)/(a)

?y = Vi?t + 1/2a(?t)^2


Solution:

?t = (Vf - Vi)/(a)
?t = (0-20)/(-9.8)
?t = 2.04

?y = Vi?t + 1/2a(?t)^2
?y = (20)(2.04) + 1/2(9.8)(2.04)^2
?y = 61.2 m

If the projectile has no velocity in the y-direction then its velocity is just simply the x-velocity but just incase you were wondering the math behind it is above Slight Smile
