1 -- The nurse should instruct the patient to avoid crowds and children to reduce the risk of developing an infection. Temperature elevation is a normal sign of an infection, however, severely immunocompromised patients may not be able to mount a fever. The absence of a fever does not rule out the presence of an infection. The patient should be instructed to have an adequate daily intake of protein and vitamin C to support the body’s immunity.
