The stars in the disk of a spiral galaxy are

(a)   relatively uniformly distributed, with only about 5% more stars in spiral arm regions than the inter-arm regions.
(b)   mostly in the spiral arms, with very low star density between the arms.
(c)   mostly old, red and faint stars in the spiral arms themselves, with a few young, hot and very luminous stars in between the spiral arms.
