1,5 -- Children have a 50% chance of inheriting the disease however, nurses are not genetic counselors or physicians and should not share this diagnostic, so answer 4 provides correct information. Genetic testing is the only diagnostic tool to diagnoses patients suspected of having Huntington’s disease; the test can predict with 95% accuracy which offspring have the disease. However, nurses are not genetic counselors or physicians and should not share this diagnostic information. The nurse can follow up on concerns once the physician discusses the genetics.
