I know that SN1 reactions occur with secondary and tertiary carbons. I also know that SN2 reactions occur with primary and secondary carbons. But, in order for me to truly understand SN1 and SN2 reactions, I need to know how to distinguish between primary, secondary and tertiary carbons. Can you please help me with that? That will help me a great deal in understanding these SN1 and SN2 reactions.

Thanks!
