Tuberculosis is a disease that is transmitted by droplets that remain in the air for long periods of time. Caring for this patient requires a private room, negative-pressure airflow in room, and wearing an N95 respirator that has been fit-tested, gloves, gown, and eyewear. This patient will not be in Droplet Precautions, and instead requires Airborne Precaution signs. This type of patient requires more than the average surgical mask for protection.
