In a study with Swedish participants, the researchers found:
 
  a. that men with high social participation, but not the women were more likely to have second heart attacks.
  b. that individuals with low social participation were more than twice as likely to have another heart attack than those with high social participation
  c. that individuals with high social participation were more than twice as likely to have another heart attack than those with low social participation
  d. women with high social participation had the highest rates of heart attacks because of the burdens associated with providing social support.
