Feedback:
A nurse performing an admission assessment for the child should determine the ability of the child to understand information to provide alternative methods of teaching, if necessary. The nurse should not let the child know that crying can elevate temperature, or avoid explaining the procedures to the child. The child could be made more comfortable by explaining the need for the procedure and allowing parents to assist in caring for the child. The nurse should not tell the parents that their presence can make care difficult for the staff.
