Feedback:
When working with older adults in healthcare practice, it is important to encourage reminiscence. Listening to older adults describe past joys and successes increases a person's satisfaction and self-esteem. Only when behavioral or significant memory problems have been noted is a geriatric psychiatric consult appropriate. Other social activities and conversation should be encouraged, but not to the point of demeaning the importance of life stories.
