If low nutritive food sources like carbs, proteins, and fats are only avaiable for consumption, which is most likely to become affected? The digestive system or the excretory system?

I'm more leaning towards the digestive system. i need to come up with an adaptation to lack of nutrients, but i can't think of any the digestive system would have due to lacking nutrients... all i can come up with is that the digestive system will probably try harder to draw in nutrients the body is lacking.

*I need something more specific though....like the structures involved and the processes that allow the digestive system to function.

thanks so much.

I would say neither, but if I had to choose, I would say excretory system. Why would you say digestive system? I'm wondering. The response why I chose this is because without carbs, for instance, you wouldn't have a source of fibre. Fibre acts by changing the nature of the contents of the gastrointestinal tract, and by changing how other nutrients and chemicals are absorbed. Soluble fiber absorbs water to become a gelatinous, viscous substance and is fermented by bacteria in the digestive tract. Insoluble fiber has bulking action and is not fermented, although a major dietary insoluble fiber source, lignin, may alter the fate and metabolism of soluble fibers.
