According to Freud, an individual who experiences problems during the phallic stage of devel-opment may have a poorly developed superego. This construct is most relevant to planning care for a client who has the DSM-IV-TR diagnosis of:

  1. Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder
  2. Schizoid personality
  3. Borderline personality disorder
  4. Antisocial personality disorder

Individuals with poorly developed superegos do not experience a sense of guilt. Lack of guilt is a major feature of antisocial personality disorder. Option 1: Guilt may be excessive in clients with this disorder. Options 2 and 3: Guilt or lack thereof is not a particular feature of either disorder.
