A client believes he has stomach cancer, but no cancer can be found. The treatment team has de-cided that a cognitive theory approach would be the best treatment. Which intervention is most consistent with a cognitive theory approach?

  1. Argue with the client about the rationality of his belief.
  2. Assist the client to reinterpret the meaning of body sensations.
  3. Reward him with tokens when he states, I do not have cancer.
  4. Urge him to see a different medical specialist.
