Which of the following would be analyzed as therapeutic communication on the part of the nurse?

  1. Things will get better; you will see.
  2. I'm sorry. What did you say?
  3. That's nothing compared to other client's problems.

This communicates to the client that the nurse understands how difficult his problem is for him. Option 1 communicates false reassurance. Option 2 communicates that the nurse was not paying attention to what the client said. Option 3 minimizes the client's problems.
