Danielle has two suitors vying for her attention. Danielle grew up in a rural area and works as a teacher. She is middle class (a well-paid teacher) and enjoys spending her leisure time reading or going to the movies.

Marcus is very different than Danielle; he grew up in the city, has a high stress/high power job, makes a great deal of money, and enjoys playing hard when he has time off. Ian grew up in the suburbs is a college instructor and makes some extra money tutoring at the high school. Ian likes to go out to eat to celebrate events, but also enjoys quiet weekends at home. Based on your reading of what makes relationships last, who should Danielle date and why?

Answer:
Similarity is very important for making a relationship last. Not only do couples who are initially similar have longer relationships, but their similarities may also mean they become more similar overtime. Based on this information Ian is the person with whom she would likely have the longest relationship. Marcus may have money and prestige, but ultimately those things that make him different or unique from her might become annoying and she will be disenchanted when she realizes how these differences might play out over the longer term.
