A patient has a peptic ulcer and is placed on a proton pump inhibitor. The patient asks how long he will have to take this medication before it will start to work. What is your best response to this patient?

  1. It is a fast-acting drug and will act in 2 days.
  2. Most of these medications take 2 to 3 weeks.
  3. In 4 weeks you will see a difference and have complete relief.
  4. It will take over 6 to 8 weeks for this drug to take effect.
