A patient tells the nurse that the prescriber has changed his medication from tacrine (Cognex) to donepezil (Aricept), and the patient wants to know why.

The nurse would be correct to clarify for the patient that an advantage to using donepezil (Aricept) instead of tacrine (Cognex) is that donepezil (Aricept) a. is better tolerated and can be given once daily.
  b. can reverse the degenerative process and improve cognitive functioning.
  c. also has antidepressant properties.
  d. does not have any peripheral cholinergic effects.
