The four main reasons why there is a increase in the number of crime laboratories in the US since 1960’s are due to:

1)   Vast growth in the field of IT and Technology.
2)   Increase in the number of drug addicts.
3)   Increase in the supply and consumption of tobacco and alcohols.
4)   Increase in the scandals related to postal services.

Due to the vast growth in the field of IT and technology the information transmission between countries takes place rapidly. Anyone can get the information about any other person if they are in the network. As a result the it never used to take too much time to become friends or enemies. Hence there was a rapid growth in the crime rate. Recently there was a scandal related to social websites like face book or orkut, where the person was contacted through this social site and was murdered. Hence the growth of technology resulted in the increase in crime rate.

Since the supply and smuggling of drugs started increasing, where people started making lot of money in this field rather than the normal way of working. Since they used to earn lot of money in a short period of time in this field. This also resulted in increase of crime rate.

The increase in the supply of tobacco and alcohol for a very reasonable rate resulted in the increase of consumption of them, which made people forget themselves when they inhale. This also resulted in the maximum growth of crime rate. The main reason for this in the involvement of political parties where the revenue used to flow like water. Hence the value of the economy also gets reduced.

Recently we have also come across the scandals related to post office. The postal stamps and bond papers were stolen or bought in bulk for a very low price and sold it to general people for the high price. This also resulted in the increase of crime laboratories related to postal service.

Answer:

• The requirement to advise criminal suspects of their constitutional rights and their right of immediate access to counsel has almost eliminated confessions as a routineinvestigative tool

• The staggering increase in crime rates in the United States

• The fact that all illicit-drug seizures must be sent to a forensic laboratory for confirmatory chemical analysis before the case can be adjudicated in court

• The advent of DNA profiling
