All patients, including pregnant women and women of child-bearing age, must be shielded with a lead/lead-equivalent apron with a thyroid collar. The apron barrier protects the reproductive organs and developing fetus from possible scatter radiation. The thyroid collar protects the thyroid gland and other potentially sensitive tissues of the neck region.
