The Court decided that Section 301 does not preempt the invasion of privacy claims in this case. It made clear that a state law claim is not preempted under 301unless it necessarily requires the court to interpret an existing provision of a contract that can reasonably be said to be relevant to the resolution of the dispute. Because the state law of privacy claims in these cases were not preempted by 301, the district court lacked removal jurisdiction over these activities. Accordingly, they are remanded to state court.
