Water has a density of 1.0 g/mL.
Limestone has a density of  2.1 to 2.61 and occasionally up to 2.9 g/mL
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_density_of_Limestone

If I want to make limestone floating on the water, I need to change the density by either reducing the density of limestone or increasing the density of water.

Does anyone have any suggestions on which approach is more practical?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions :>

Hey oem7110,

Do you know the reason why CaCO3 decreases/increases in density to begin with?

And you want to find out why there different densities of CaCO3, correct?

Wouldn't depend on the types of isotopes making up the ionic compound?

Referring to following fact sheet for limestone, it seems that temperature and pH can effect the density of limestone g/L.  I would like to know what temperature and pH values of water are required to make limestone floating over water.

Do you have any suggestions?

I think I have an idea.

First, it is a solution of CaCO3 you're curious about?
