When working with a patient with impaired mental function, proper communication from the technologist to the patient should include:

speaking in a tone and pace that would be used when speaking to another adult
speaking in a higher and louder tone
assessing the patient's comprehension level and adjusting communication based on this assessment

assessing the patient's comprehension level and adjusting communication based on this assessment
