I'm really confused about the absence of centrioles in ovum. What is the significance of their absence. We know that secondary oocyte is marked with stopped Metaphase II. so, if centrioles will disappear at this stage then how will the be chromosomes maintained at equatorial position ? Please explain my doubt.....! !

Centrioles are present in the oogonia upto the pachytene stage. Thereafter, it degenerates. Certain microtubular structures perform the function of the centrioles and help in the completion of the first meiotic division

sorry, but your answer you gave is about the oogonia. My question is about the absence of centrioles in ovum or egg not in ogonia which is its primitive stage.
