A phlebotomist was supposed to perform a skin puncture on a patient but the patient had very cold, pale hands. What step should the phlebotomist consider next?
 
  a. warming the hand
  b. applying a tourniquet
  c. asking the patient to clench/unclench his/her fist
  d. extra steps are not needed and the skin puncture should proceed
