The patient recovering from a CVA asks the purpose of the Coumadin (warfarin). The best response by the nurse is that Coumadin:
1.   dissolves the clot.
2.   prevents formation of new clots.
3.   dilates the vessels to improve blood flow.
4.   suppresses the formation of platelets.
