D - Illness may cause a spiritual crisis and can place considerable stresses on a person's internal resources. The term spiritual environment refers to the degree to which a person has contemplated his or her own existence. Options A, B, and C may be right, but they are not the most important reason for a nurse to assess a patient's spiritual environment.
