Rationale: The infant is at risk for hyperbilirubinemia. The mother may not have recognized the signs of hyperbilirubinemia in the early stage;therefore,the nurse should make the first home visit at day 3 of life. Waiting until day 5,8,or 9 after discharge from the hospital is incorrect since the early signs of hyperbilirubinemia may be missed if the nurse waits this length of time to evaluate the infant.
