Before surgery, the infant should not receive any drug, such as atropine sulfate, that dilates the pupil because this will further occlude the canal of Schlemm. Preoperative antibiotics, nothing by mouth before surgery, and the use of arm restrains after surgery are all orders that would be appropriate for the care of this child.
