Variability is absent when there is no peak-to-trough range detected. Variability is minimal when an amplitude range is detected but the rate is 5 beat/min or fewer. Variability is moderate or normal when an amplitude range is detected and the rate is 6 to 25 beat/min. Variability is marked when an amplitude range is detected and the rate is greater than 25 beat/min.
