Many changes have occurred across health-care settings that have affected family care. Hospitals have redesigned their policies to be family-friendly and have liberalized visiting policies to decrease stress on the family. Alternative care settings have been developed in part to combat escalating medical costs, and patients have high-acuity illnesses and needs across all of these settings. There has been no decrease in the population of pediatric patients.
