Describe what constitutes a lichen. How do they obtain their nutrition? Where are they usually found in the rocky intertidal?

Lichens are symbiotic associations between algae and fungi. The algae supply the association with food from photosynthesis, while the fungus supplies nutrients from its decomposition and waste products. Lichens are common in the supralittoral fringe of rocky shores.
