How do marine biologists know that sharks and bony fishes evolved in freshwater but then later migrated to the marine environment?

Both sharks and bony fishes are hypoosmotic to the seawater around them. As a result, they constantly lose water to the marine environment. These fishes have evolved adaptations against losing water. If these fishes had evolved in a marine environment then one would expect their tissues to be isotonic to their environment.
