Cephalization refers to the evolutionary tendency toward the formation of a head in which sensory organs are concentrated. This trend can be seen in bilateral animals from any of the phlya above the simple flat worms (except phylum Echinodermata; its members display pentamerous symmetry and lack cephalization).
