Herbal toxicities may be seen in animals with owners who are overzealous about the use of herbs in their pets. Overzealous owners may give their animals too much of a good thing and cause more harm than good. What are antidotes for herbal overdoses?

Generally there are no antidotes for herbal overdoses. Treatment is symptomatic: maintaining airways and supplemental oxygen, administering fluid therapy, and treating hypoglycemia, or hypertension if they occur. Most overdoses are seen with giving too many herbs or in giving herbs to debilitated, old, or very young patients with compromised renal or hepatic function. The best antidote is prudent, informed usage of herbal supplements.
