Managers follow a five-step process in the development of an effective suggestive selling program. First, managers develop their standards for the suggestive selling program. In the second step, managers train their staff on program expectations and sales techniques. In step three, managers observe staff performance to determine if employees are practicing good suggestive selling techniques. Step four requires managers to evaluate the results of their suggestive selling programs. In the fifth step, managers make modifications, if needed, to improve the programs or to identify those areas in which employees may need additional training.
