Gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) is nearly the same as in vitro fertilization (IVT) except that:
 
  a. in GIFT, fertilization occurs naturally in the fallopian tubes.
  b. in GIFT, ova are extracted from a woman's ovaries during laparoscopy.
  c. in GIFT, the sperm and eggs may be from the couple or from donors.
  d. GIFT is not covered by most private health insurances.
