Do you think that nonsubstance-related addictions, such as compulsive gambling or compulsive eating, have a greater genetic or environmental component compared to substance-related additions, such as nicotine? Explain your reasoning.

Addictions develop from a stepwise series of physiological adaptations that alter brain function following repeated exposure to certain environmental stimuli. As with other behavioral disorders, family studies (pedigree analysis), twin studies, and adoption studies have concluded that many different types of addiction have genetic components.
